GRAPHIC DESIGN & INTERACTIVE MEDIA

BECOME A GRAPHIC DESIGNER

PROGRAM DIRECTOR

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN

You will learn about the social, technological, and political changes that have shaped communication arts. 

You will be taught the building blocks of design, and explore the relationship between visual form and content. 

You will understand the role of brand identity, and how to execute a visual identity program using communication platforms and technologies for both print and online channels.  

You will study the role played by an art director, and the wide range of disciplines and environments in which they operate.   

You will expand your understanding of interfaces and user interaction. You will strengthen your creative ideation processes, and practice flexible thinking to solve problems.    

You will be taught how humans interact, both with each other and their environments, as a prelude to designing interactive experiences and products, including through the use of mobile technology.   

You will practice on Adobe’s vector imaging software while exploring advanced concepts and techniques. You will learn how to provide solutions that are both practical and creative.   

You will train on Adobe’s raster imaging software so that you can create, edit and manipulate imagery for both print and digital channels.   

You will be introduced to the design of the printed page (single and multi-page layouts), and explore the printing process as it relates to technology and materialsYou will learn content organization, grids, and Adobe InDesign.

You will learn how to communicate through visual language by exploring the use of typography design and letterform in both analog and digital applications. 

You will practice shooting a variety of locations and subjects while learning to use light, shape, framing and depth of field as tools to create imagery, mood, and messages. 

You will be taught how to create and manipulate motion graphics, imagery, typography and video.   

You will study the technologies and platforms utilized in website design today. 

This studio-based class will allow you to focus on a major topical project, one that can be included in your portfolio of work.  

You will learn the best practices for running a design studio, from project scope to communication to execution, and customer-first strategies to improve the client experience.  

You will be taught the best practices for creating an effective, relevant portfolio of work, one that is geared specifically towards your career goals. You will learn how to apply for career-oriented jobs, write a resume, and interview effectively.

Andrew Barnsley

President

Toronto Film School President Andrew Barnsley is one of Canada’s most celebrated television producers, with an Emmy, a Golden Globe and six Canadian Screen Awards to his name. As CEO of Project 10 Productions, a Toronto and Los Angeles-based production company, he continues to dedicate his career to sharing Canadian stories with the world. Barnsley has spent the last 20+ years producing content across multiple genres and formats, including comedy, animation, live-action, children’s, documentary and multiple live concert specials. He has overseen more than $250M in production spending! He believes his dual roles as a working producer and TFS president have proven mutually beneficial to both.
