RE-RECORDING MIXER/SOUND DESIGNER
Scott Purdy was born in Prince Edward Island, Canada, the son of renowned Atlantic region artist Henry Purdy R.C.A., C.M. His youth was a brilliant mixture of the arts and the local sports arenas. Scott remained on the “Island” (with a brief stay at the University of New Brunswick) to pursue a chemical engineering degree at U.P.E.I. but it didn’t take very long to realize my ambitions lay in other places than white lab coats, pills and regime type routines.
Following the trend of the day Scott headed west to Calgary, Alberta, for the prosperity of the oil fields, and a personal need to see more of life’s rich pageantry.
Upon returning to P.E.I., Scott’s life long love of music found him immersed in the local music scene, working sound and lights for “Island” bands.
Scott’s new curiosity for sound led him to Toronto to demystify and educate himself in the amazing world of recording. After graduating from a recording school in the Toronto area Scott was fortunate to land a job at “Eastern Sound Studios” where he was able to be familiarized with studio procedures and get hands on practical experience for the good base of knowledge in electronics, acoustics and theories he had acquired.
Three and a half years later with working highlights the likes of Anne Murray, Gordon Lightfoot and Bob Dylan, it was clear to Scott there was still more audio challenge needed in his world.
Scott started working at “The Filmhouse” (presently named “Deluxe”) and it didn’t take very long for him to be hooked by the passion of filmmaking and the challenge of audio post. In the process of putting sound to picture Scott has found an art to help moving images provoke thought and emotion. In his over a twelve-year tenure at “Deluxe” Scott had the opportunity to work with sound for many talented directors, producers and lots of people on different projects in various facets of the film, television and entertainment industries.
In February of 2000 Scott started his own post audio company “Sign Post Sound Inc.” with the intention of being able to bring a more personalized and passionate approach to post sound……..
